Top 10 hitters in all of baseball, comparing players to the mean
by: Rob Reed | July 13, 2010, 8:36pm

I am experimenting with standard deviations from the mean to better rank players. This is not yet a functional component of the playertrack interface, but it should be shortly.

This function reveals that these are the "real" top 10 fantasy offensive players in all of baseball through 7-12-10.

1. Miguel Cabrera, DET, AL, 312 AB, .346 AVG, .425 OBP, 64 R, 22 HR, 14.182 AB/HR, 77 RBI, 2 SB, 3 CS, .400 SB%, 52 K, 43 BB, 1.00 K/BB, .651 SLG%, 1.076 OPS, 83% CR%, .361 BABIP, .304 ISO

Distance From Mean: BA(.346, +79.0129151489246) RBI(77, +42.0563909774436) R(64, +27.2744360902256) HR(22, +13.9360902255639) SB(2, -3.33082706766917)... [read more]

All Star Break Update is up!
by: Rob Reed | July 13, 2010, 7:41am

The All-Star break results are now up... some interesting changes from last month.

Josh Hamilton leads the way for the standard 5x5 hitters with an amazing June.

Adam Wainwright passes Ubaldo Jimenez, but this is only because Ubaldo has suddenly proven that, yes, he is human and not made of bionic parts.

Podcast by the end of the week discussing the results, and players that I would be looking to trade and players I would be looking to pick up.

New update is coming today or tomorrow...

I am also trying to program a system to put in the positions easily, so cross your fingers! Thanks for your support of the site!

Ranking type: contact rate (first to worst), average (worst to first), and BABIP (worst to first). This should help us figure out the unluckiest hitters in all of baseball through the end of May. 150 minimum ABs.

Ridiculous contact rate (97%)? The guy struck out only 5 times in 186 ABs... very impressive. So, he can hit. ... [read more]
